How to prepare for your PAT Test inspection.

🧠 What to expect — And how to prepare for your PAT Testing appointment with Wattech.

Whether you're running a bustling office, managing a school, or overseeing a workshop, Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is essential to keeping your workplace safe and compliant. But did you know there are simple steps you can take to make your PAT Testing visit smoother, faster, and more efficient?

Here’s a guide from Wattech Ltd on how to prepare your site and your appliances — ensuring our engineers can get straight to the job while causing minimal disruption to your day.

🔌 1. Make Appliances Accessible

  • Clear access to desks, under counters, or cabinets where appliances are plugged in.

  • Group smaller appliances in each area together, (e.g. kettles, phone chargers) to reduce time spent searching by our engineers.

  • Unlock any storage areas that contain electrical items you want tested.

💡 If an appliance can’t be reached or switched on, it may not be testable.

📋 2. Create an Inventory (If Possible)

  • A simple list of items and locations helps streamline the process.

  • Highlight any new equipment or recent changes since your last PAT Test.

📝 Don’t worry if you don’t have an inventory — our team will create one during the visit.

Frayed and exposed, this laptop charging cable shows significant damage and poses a safety risk, highlighting the need for immediate replacement.

⚠️ 3. Remove Faulty or Damaged Equipment

  • Dispose of damaged or faulty equipment to keep your site safe.

🔍 This helps focus attention on appliances that actually need testing.

🕰️ 4. Schedule Smart

  • Try to arrange testing outside of peak working hours or during quieter periods.

  • Inform staff of the upcoming visit so they’re aware of potential interruptions and they can bring any company laptop chargers or items they use for or in work.

🤝 We’ll always work flexibly to suit your environment — but a heads-up goes a long way.

✅ 5. Ask Questions!

  • Want to know more about how testing works? Interested in retest cycles or compliance packages?

  • Just ask — we’re here to keep things transparent, simple, and safe.

💬 Wrapping Up: Safety Made Easy

PAT Testing doesn’t need to be a headache and we act like paracetamol anyway. With a little preparation, your visit from Wattech Ltd will be quick, effective, and minimally disruptive — giving you peace of mind that your electrical equipment is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.
